Grunge is dead

...but we can still visit a cemetery and remember, right?

(if you like Alice in Chains and you don't know about Mad Season, go listen to the whole album!)

And if you don't know why I'm posting it today - it's 23rd anniversary of Kurt Cobain's death and 15th anniversary of Layne Staley's death.
Music is a big part of my life and even if I don't listen to grunge as much as I used to, it was with me when I grew up and left a mark in my heart.
And it still influences my art. From this, made 10 years ago:

And how about you guys? Do you make art influenced by music? Show me! :)

Book Review

Journal Entry: Wed Mar 22, 2017, 5:46 AM
Facebook l Gallery l Last.fm l Watch Me l Note Me

Hello friends!
Today's journal will be a little bit different - I have a booklet to review! :)
My buddy Pyramiddhead , who also loves to horrify his watchers, gave ma a copy of his book How to Create Nightmarishly Original Horror in exchange of an honest review. You can buy it here:  How To Create Nightmarishly Original Horror by Pyramiddhead

First, I'll introduce you to the author's art:
I've been watching him for quite a long time because his art disturbs me in a good way.

Now something about the book. You can see an excerpt here:

Technicalities (aka boring stuff):
It's an epub. You can open it in most of the ebook readers. I used a Pocketbook Touch Lux 3 for the test. There were some minor issues like spaces in middle of some words ("Welcom e"), but I can't tell if it's my e-reader's fault or something else. The booklet is 47 pages long (in my reader, if you increase a font, it could be even 100 :D), so it's a rather quick read. There were also a few spelling mistakes. Artwork included in the booklet was of a good quality.

Content:
Introduction - a short one.
1. Inspiration - a very helpful chapter on seeking a source of inspiration, pros and cons (in a nice list) of drawing from a specific inspiration. Also including some tips on how not to get trapped into one
2. What Will Make Your Original Horror Scary part 1 - some nice mental excercises to boost your imagination. I'll definitely use the tips :)
3. What Will Make Your Original Horror Scary part 2 - introducing the term of "uncanny valley", why do people find some things creepy and how to use that knowledge in your artworks
4. Creating Nightmarish Art - tips on the process of creating artwork, planning, using reference (with pros and cons).
5. Elevating Your Horror - how to make your art more intense, with "before and after" examples from author's portfolio
Links to author's websites.

Was it helpful?
It depends what you're looking for. It's not a step-by-step book which gives you tutorials how to draw a generic vampire or werewolf. It won't give you technical knowledge on what is a HB pencil or basic stuff you probably already know ;) I think it's not for a very beginner artists, but for people who already know the basics and want to experiment with horror art or are already making horror art and want to improve. It gives you some ways to peek into your soul and search for the answers by yourself, so you can make ORIGINAL art that includes your own fears. It can be also helpful for people who are closely into some horror fandom and want to break out and start creating from their own imagination.
And I'll definitely use some of the tips  :D

Lots of love for all of you

Life Update

Journal Entry: Wed Jan 4, 2017, 10:01 AM
Facebook l Gallery l Last.fm l Watch Me l Note Me

Hello!
I hope you started New Year well :) Sadly I can't say this about myself - for the first three days I was at work for 52 hours. 52/72=72%. Wow. And I'm not even very tired, I guess I'm used to it after over a year working as a resident of internal medicine. I have some work-free days soon (long weekend in Poland - happily I wasn't chosen for 24 shifts during it) so I can brush the dust off my tablet (and make some room on my desk - it's extremally messy ^^') and have some creative fun! :)

I don't remember if I posted it on dA, but enjoy a fun fact about my dog's nose - it changes color :)

Maszonoseng by Fyrrea

Her nose is pink now! It's called a "snow nose" and it's normal in some dogs :)

OK, time to stop procrastinating, clean my desk and get to work!

I wish you all the best in the new year, stay healthy

Vacation pics + some stuff

Journal Entry: Fri Sep 16, 2016, 10:11 AM
Facebook l Gallery l Last.fm l Watch Me l Note Me

Yep, I have a free weekend like a normal person (just after I got back from vacations I got a shitload of 24h shifts...) and I finally had some time to look at my pictures from my short trip to Tatra Mountains :)

This is the view I had from the hotel room - each day I woke up to see this magnificent sight.
01 by Fyrrea

I visited a weird house which was turned upside down. And the floor was tilted, so it felt so WRONG and surreal to be there, made me dizzy :D
02 by Fyrrea
This is Poland, even the mascots are drunk :D
04 by Fyrrea
In Zakopane there were so many shops with useless shit (sometimes it was literally SHIT - a raibow one!), I had fun looking at all this kitch :)
05 by Fyrrea
BTW - I know I've seen this cat somewhere on dA! I don't think the manufacturer asked for permission... Do you know who made this artwork?
06 by Fyrrea
I also had a trip to Morskie Oko - I never thought it would be so crammed with tourists... Seriously, 9 km of walking with such a huge amount of people. I missed my good old times in Bieszczady Mountains, where I could go all day and see no other people.
08 by Fyrrea
But the views compensated for everything <3
09 by Fyrrea
Just look!
10 by Fyrrea
It's a real paradise! But one thing was making me both very sad and very angry. The road to Morskie Oko is nice and straight and not so difficult. Even my grandma would make it. It's only 9 kilometres. And lazy people are using horse carriages to go up there! Seriously! Two horses are taking 14 people. All the horses I've seen were sweaty, one of them was bleeding from a leg, all of them looked so tired, that my heart was bleeding. Just look - most of the passengers are young and healthy (and lazy and they certainly lack empathy)!
11 by Fyrrea
And the bonus picture: who can guess what is it?

Lots of love for you! :3

Life Update

Facebook l Gallery l Last.fm l Watch Me l Note Me

I'm so sorry I'm not very active recently - for most people it's time for summer vacations and it's also true for senior doctors in my hospital. Sooo... guess who has to take more 24h shifts -_-

I was also going to complain about resident doctors wages in Poland, but I'm ashamed for my country how little it values our jobs (and lives of people we're saving every day). Oh well... Try to guess our hourly wage in the comments :D About a month ago I was on a manifestation with 10k other resident doctors and of course the government doesn't care.

Porozu by Fyrrea

It's a big problem here. Many young doctors leave the country (I'm considering it too if the situation stays this way), so the doctors who stay have more work. Overworked people = worse care and more mistakes.

Questions for you:
1. How are you spending your summer vacations? Are you going to some nice place?
2. What's the most recent book you've read?

Lots of love for you all

PS. I forgot about the Most Important News!

And then he was a Magneto Cat! Tess helped him to get better and we adopted him.

Rudi3 by Fyrrea

He's so brave - he isn't even afraid of cucumbers! And he's getting better every day, he's running around and jumping, but he often loses his balance and falls.

DeviantART, meet Masha :)
She's a sweet 5 years old girl. We took her from the dog shelter - she was taken there from an abusive owner, who was beating her badly. She's afraid of rapid movements, afraid of sticks (when I'm sweeping the floor she hides), afraid of her leash, also she's terrified when she sees drunk people. That's sadly telling much about her past :/
What's wonderful, despite all the bad treatment she received in her life, she's not aggressive! And she started trusting us :)

And about late Christmas gifts - I'll have much work, so I managed to finish two of them, but tomorrow I have a day off, so I'm going to livestream and make some more! :)

Hugs for all of you and tail-wags from Masha! :)

My dog friend passed away...

Journal Entry: Thu Nov 12, 2015, 3:26 PM
Facebook l Gallery l Last.fm l Watch Me l Note Me

Two days ago I found a quote that touched me. I even posted it here on dA.

“A good dog never dies. He always stays. He walks besides you on crisp autumn days when frost is on the fields and winter's drawing near. His head is within our hand in his old way.”

I never knew that it will be so fitting today.

Nugat was only one year and four months old. But let's start from the beginning...

Untitled by Fyrrea

This little pup was born on a long summer night. I helped the dog mummy with the birth (being a good midwoof). He was the only chocolate lab in the litter - his seven siblings were black.

01 by Fyrrea

I will never forget how beautiful his eyes were when he was a puppy - a lovely shade of blue.

Then he grew up. His eyes changed color, but his mind was still puppy-like. He was full of joy and his heart was huge, that much love he had for everyone.

Untitled by Fyrrea

Three days ago he started to have eye infection. We took him to the vet today. He told us his lower eyelid turns inwards and his eyelashes irritate his eye. He prescribed some eyedrops. And then he checked his abdomen... And decided to do an USG. His reaction after seeing the image was "fuck... I've never seen anything like this".

We took Nugat to a vet clinic in bigger city immediately. It was a long car ride, I was sitting in the back of the car, comforting my dog friend.

The vets also did an USG, their reaction was the same. They took Nugat to the operation theatre to do an explorative laparotomy. They told us we shouldn't be optimistic... I was with him when he was beginning to sleep - kissed his head and nose.

During the surgery, one of the vets came out and told us about the situation. A big tumor and metastases near his intestines. Nothing could be done - we agreed to euthanise him on the table, because it would be a terrible act of egoism to wake him up and let him suffer. It was a quickly growing tumor and soon he'd have his intestines blocked.

I cried so much. And all the way back, still imagining maybe it was some kind of a cruel joke and he will stand up and lick my ear. It was something unimaginable for me - to take a dog to have his eyes checked, and to return with his body wrapped in blanket. I just can't believe it happened. He was so full of life and energy, so young...

If you have dog friends, please give them a big nose-kiss from me. And hug them tightly.

DeviantArtist Questionnaire

Journal Entry: Fri Aug 7, 2015, 7:10 AM

  1. How long have you been on DeviantArt?
For 8 years! But I wasn't very active here at first...

  2. What does your username mean?
At first it was gosia-firewarrior, because I was fascinated with firedancing. It was my big hobby in high school and in my happy times of living in a dorm I had much fun making little shows during outdoor parties :3
I even have some old pictures...
fire show no. 4 by urodzonyozmierzchu

  3. Describe yourself in three words.
    Empathic Artistic Nerd :D

  4. Are you left or right handed?
There's a fancy word for this - ambidextrous! But I chose to use my right hand most of the time.

  5. What was your first deviation?
I give this part of me... by Fyrrea 2007 :D

  6. What is your favourite type of art to create?
Digital art and photography. I love to experiment and change things during the process of creation, so that's I don't like to make traditional art as much - too difficult to change major things once you started ;)

  7. If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be?
Sculpting. I think it would be so fun!

  8. What was your first favourite?
    mochadito by misterpila
    And I still like it!

  9. What type of art do you tend to favourite the most?
    Surreal things. And good photography.

  10. Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist?
Exileden - not only she makes wonderful art, but also she's an amazing, caring person with great enthusiasm and passion. And also with a big heart for helping people and animals. If you don't know her yet, look at her art and journals :)
I especially like this artwork because of the backstory and how it's a perfect example of dreams coming true.
    Fighting for Dreams... by Exileden

  11. If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be?
All of my wonderful friends who live too far away.

  12. How has a fellow deviant impacted your life?
I actually live with one of the deviants :D My pawelshogun, and he impacts my life, in fact he sustains it (he's much better cook ;P), not mentioning all the emotional support from him. Love you!

  13. What are your preferred tools to create art?
Preferred? I'd prefer to have a Cintiq and I will have it once I start my new job :D But tools are just tools, they don't matter so much. I use my old (6 years) Wacom Bamboo Fun, Nikon D3100, kit lens, m42 mount old f50 lens. I also have a ton of traditional art supplies (especially colored pencils - I'm a pencil hoarder).

  14. What is the most inspirational place for you to create art?
    My desk, cluttered with everything.

  15. What is your favourite DeviantArt memory?
Interacting with you guys :) It's constantly my favourite thing here. To give support and to be supported, to meet new friends, to watch amazing and inspiring artworks.
Thank you for all of this.

Hello friends :)
Only about three more weeks and I'll finish the hell of internal medicine! It's so tiring, working so many hours a day, not physically tiring, but more emotionally. So many suffering people there, old and helpless, so many deaths, grieving family members, a highly empathetic person like me doesn't have an easy life there, but it's so rewarding in cases when you actually CAN help, that it kind of makes up for it.
I've been recently transferred to Cardiological Intensive Care Unit and I kind of like it, but I miss sitting in the old staff room (I still go there to help/chat when nothing happens on the CICU).
Oh, and I started to write the Resuscitation Guide, but it's going very slowly at this moment (as everything - art and such...), but don't think I forgot about it ;)

About half way through my seventh grade year I found a new book on my science shelf.  Flung haphazardly into the already established piles of organized chaos, much to my chagrin, was this dingy yellow thing. The color immediately associated itself with valley girls and southern belles and cheerleaders and a plethora of other words my mouth had taught itself to spit out with disgust. I studied it for a moment, unsettled, deciding what to do about this unprecedented newcomer. The filthy mass of books I had already collected seemed to mock me, daring me to read one more horrible, boring, poorly written chapter. An internal struggle, a deep breath, a snap decision, and I was holding the yellow book in my hands, flipping to the first page. I was stuck with it, so why not give it a chance? Besides, you aren't supposed to judge a book by its cover...
I am happy to report the judgment didn't start until after the first chapter. The irresponsible, annoying, unnecessarily r

Help needed [Help found, thank you]

Journal Entry: Tue Jun 16, 2015, 10:19 AM
Facebook l Gallery l Last.fm l Watch Me l Note Me

Hello :)
As some of you know, I'm a doctor (an intern now). I've always wanted to help people and to teach them, how they can also be helpful and become life-saving heroes :) I want to write a few articles about resuscitation (what to do if someone collapses on a street or you see someone unconscious) and some emergency situations (what to do with massive wounds or burns before the ambulance arrives) and also how to call the emergency. All written in light, not boring and formal style, with anecdotes and examples and techniques to remember some information more easily :) And I'll post it on dA (IDK yet if in journals, or in literature deviations - I need your suggestions).
So, the help is needed because I'm not a native english speaker, I make mistakes. So if you'd like to participate (proof read, correct mistakes) - please write here in the comments that you're interested. You'll be credited of course :)

Also, if there are any medicine-related topics you'd like to read about, I'm waiting for suggestions :) But I want to focus on CPR first, because it can REALLY save someone's life! Only 5-10% can survive with a sudden cardiac arrest if not given immediate help. If you start CPR in less than 3 minutes, there are much better odds! :)

Lots of hugs and love for you guys!

Not that kind of work I was doing earlier (slave for writing hospital discharges and other paperwork), but something more ;) The doctors actually WANT to teach me something, which is awesome, since my ER internship I haven't learned much. (Removing casts and k-wires on orthopedic internship doesn't count, I think everyone that likes working with tools could do it much better than me, but the big buzzing overheating cast-removing saw was fun to use.)
So wish me luck ;)
Hugs for all of you guys, stay healthy!

So, I went to my parent's home for the weekend. Few years ago they moved to a village near the border with Czech Republic - a very beautiful place (I'll show you soon) and I like to go there and rest in that wonderful environment.
In the village there lives one mentally disabled guy, who is treated very kindly by all the people. He roams freely the whole village, people smile and wave to him, when a car drives and he's on the middle of the road, you have to beep to make him go to the side.
And yesterday I drove back from the town with my mum and I saw him laying on the bridge. Not moving at all.
I was afraid he got hurt, maybe someone hit him with a car and left him, with much fear in my heart I got to him.
He was happily snoring, sleeping on the bridge.
So I asked one of the villagers where his parents live, just to ask if he maybe is a diabetic or maybe he had a seizure, IDK, but I just can't leave anyone if I'm not sure if he needs help or not.
And guess what the guy answered.
"Oh, don't worry. If he sleeps like this, it means it will be raining soon. He's like a living barometer!"
And you know what? He was right about the rain! :)

Lots of weekend love and hugs for you! And expect some pictures soon :3

My friend just opened a store where he's selling hand crafted terrain elements - so if words like "Dark City 30", "Metropolis 15" or "Outpost 15" make you have a nerdgasm/drool, feel free to visit and drool some more! :D
